Bio
In 1998, the concept of Blessed and Highly Damaged came into being as a platform for me to delve into songwriting during a period when I was hesitant to record my own voice, particularly my singing voice. My understanding of music theory was minimal—I lacked any grasp of keys, chords, or harmonies. Consequently, my initial creations were fashioned by piecing together drum samples and individual notes that I captured from a 49-key keyboard (the name of which escapes my memory). Armed with these tools and the desire to express myself through rhythm and sound (as well as a PC running Windows 95), I embarked on a journey of exploration.
As I grew more at ease with my singing voice, I ventured into recording lyrical music under my own name, which had always been my ultimate aspiration. Nevertheless, in moments when I sought solace or to unwind through creativity, I instinctively gravitated towards crafting instrumental compositions—and in 2022, while recovering from an especially demanding new wave musical project, I unexpectedly released an album of solo-piano pieces under Dustin Hunter predictively titled, Here Comes the Transition. This album reignited my passion for creating music without lyrics and set off a chain of ambient singles indented for relaxation and meditation. As a result of this sequence of events, I found myself compelled to revisit the instrumental pieces I had created many years ago, and in the summer of 2023, I began embarking on a journey of remastering and releasing my original albums, EPs, and singles from 2000 onward.
As the decade progresses and my journey as both Blessed and Highly Damaged continues, there are moments when I struggle to put my thoughts into words, and there are also times when I prefer the beauty of sound unburdened by language. Nevertheless, my desire to communicate through creativity endures. Therefore, whether I’m conveying my thoughts through the voice of another or embracing the telepathy of a wordless soundscape, Blessed and Highly Damaged remains an integral part of my expression; it is an invitation to dance, an offering of communion, and a call to embark on this journey of exploration.
