DUSTIN HUNTER

It begins in spiral notebooks; lined sheets, sweetly perfumed with the anticipation of unspoken desires. The emptiness between lines grasping at innermost thoughts, and the ink, like an elixir for melancholy, bleeds onto the pages to create something new. Refuge. Bio

Like many a juvenile immersed in gothic youth, I spent years adorning spiral notebooks with lines and verses I envisioned would one day blossom into an album. It wasn’t until being introduced to a single-track WAV editor on my PC, however, that I began crafting sounds into audio mosaics that eventually became songs—songs that eventually found homes in more than a half-dozen albums. Yet, my reluctance to use my voice steered me towards instrumental pieces, and these albums were only circulated among friends; none were for sale.

It wasn’t until 2010—after investing in my own piano and guitar lessons—that I introduced my debut commercial album, Benediction—a lo-fi record lifted from the pages of those spiral notebooks.

A decade later, my second album emerged as a conceptual exploration of Jungian psychology, woven into the soundtrack of a metaphorical 1980s horror film I called, Metamorphosis. This arduous sophomore challenge led me to seek solace away from the microphone once more, and led to my first solo piano record, Here Comes the Transition, followed by a series of ambient singles for relaxation (singles which led to a revival of my old instrumental mixtapes, which I began releasing under the alias, Blessed and Highly Damaged.

What’s next? Today, on this August afternoon as I write and ponder the forthcoming releases that will carry my name, I am determined to welcome the uncertainty encapsulated in that question.
